The International Association of Marine Investigators (IAMI) Awards Program stands as a beacon of excellence in the field of marine investigation. It is with great pride that we recognize the outstanding achievements of our members and colleagues who have dedicated their careers to the pursuit of truth and justice on and off  the water.

Each year, during our Annual Training Seminar (ATS), we gather to celebrate the very best among us. The IAMI Awards Program honors those who have gone above and beyond in their service to the marine investigation community. These individuals embody the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and dedication.

The Dave MacGillis Investigator of the Year Award-Presented by Geico

Recognizes individuals who have achieved outstanding results in marine theft and/or fraud investigations.

Qualifications:

a. The individual(s) must have shown outstanding accomplishments in the area of investigations, in either the criminal or civil disciplines.
b. They must have investigated or assisted in investigating a significant marine theft and/or fraud.
c. They must have demonstrated knowledge consistent with membership in the Association and, ideally, used IAMI resources in the investigation.
d. The David MacGillis IAMI Investigator of the Year Award recipient must use IAMI as a resource in the year preceding his or her receiving the Award.

The Pat Rowland Lifetime Achievement Award

This award, named in honor of Pat Rowland of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (Retired), is periodically awarded to IAMI members who have distinguished themselves by service to the Association.

Candidates are selected based upon exemplary service above and beyond what is required of association members, or for other significant acts bringing favorable credit to the Association. When possible, the review and decision to grant this award will be made by previous winners.  This award will be presented at the Annual Training Seminar.

Certificate of Merit

This award shall be presented to an individual, unit, or department who has displayed excellence throughout the year.

These actions can include, but are not limited to:

a.    A large-scale investigation involving multiple boats, jurisdictions, or suspects.

b.    Innovative ideas or programs which resulted in a positive impact on the community.

c.     Large or unique boat recoveries.

d.    Any other actions, programs, or investigations deemed appropriate by the Awards Committee.

Any nominee who was nominated for but not selected for the Investigator of the Year Award may be considered to receive a Certificate of Merit.

IAMI shall furnish the recipient(s) of this award:

·         A certificate signed by the IAMI President and the Awards Committee Chairman depicting the name of the award, the recipient’s name, and the date and location of the presentment.

There is no maximum number of these awards that can presented each year.

This award will be presented by the President and the Chairman of the Awards Committee during the Banquet of the Annual Training Seminar.

CMI of the Year

  • Cannot nominate oneself
  • Must Promote the Program and IAMI outside the organization
  • Must be in good standing with CMI credits and with IAMI  
  • Does not need to be a member of IAMI to nominate an investigator for the award 
  • Must include the following information for Case:
    • CMI Name(s) title if applicable (Includes LE and NLE)
    • Agency / Company
    • Summary of the investigation 
    • Key factors leading to Success- (quality of origin)/ what worked
    • Suggestions to Other Investigators- What you learned 
    • Closing of the case (ruling and/ or settlement of claim/ closure)
  • Nominations will be reviewed by the awards committee and the CMI committee

Directors Award

This award is presented each year to the Director(s) who demonstrate excellent service to the Association and committees during the year that went above and beyond what is expected. The IAMI 1st and 2nd Vice President shall choose the award recipient(s) and
present the award during the banquet at the Annual Training Seminar.
