CMFI Examination

The CMFI Examination is designed to test the applicant on a multitude of topics through the use of true/false and multiple choice questions.  It shall be a “closed book” examination and consist of no more than one hundred fifty (150) questions.  Passing percentage shall be 80%.  Results of the examination shall be recorded as “pass” or “fail”.

The passing percentage of any individual test shall not be provided to the applicant and shall be held in strict confidence by the CMI committee and/or proctors.

Anyone thought to be cheating shall immediately be asked to leave the testing location and an immediate review shall be conducted by no less than three members of the CMFI Committee

If it shall be determined that the applicant did not cheat, the applicant shall be permitted to resume taking the test and given an additional amount of time to complete the CMFI Examination in proportion to the time taken to conduct the review.

In the event it is determined that the applicant did cheat, the applicant shall forfeit their Application and Examination fee and be precluded from re-applying for two (2) years from the date of the test.  Furthermore, if someone is caught cheating on the CMFI Examination they will lose their CMI Certification and IAMI Membership for a period determine by the CMI Committee.  

The CMFI Examination shall be given at IAMI Annual Training Seminars and from time to time and at such other locations as designated by the Board of Directors, or its designee. Each examination shall be proctored and be no longer than three (3) hours.  Each applicant must present proper identification to be admitted into the testing room.  There shall be no talking during the examination and permission to leave the room to attend to personal needs must be obtained from a proctor.

After completing the examination, the applicant should immediately leave the testing room in a professional and quiet manner. All examinations shall be handed to a proctor and then placed together in a sealed envelope and given to the Chairperson or his/her designee of the CMFI Committee.

The CMFI Examination shall be graded within thirty (30) days of completion by a member of the CMI Committee and reviewed by another member for accuracy in scoring. 

A Proctor Sheet, containing the names of the proctors, location of testing, date of testing, applicant identification information and “pass” or “fail” will be generated by the CMI Committee upon grading the exam. The CMI Committee shall notify the Board of Directors, or its designee, within fourteen (14) days after the completion of grading of all examinations, with the names of the applicants and their “pass” or “fail” status.  The Board of Directors, or its designee, shall notify the applicant within fourteen (14) days of receipt of the grading information whether the applicant successfully completed the examination.  This information shall be kept under the exclusive control of the CMI Committee and/or IAMI Headquarters and shall not be disseminated to anyone for any purpose.

Any challenge to the accuracy of the scoring or the integrity of any question(s) must be made in writing, detailing the contested scoring and the reason why the question(s) is being challenged, and mailed to IAMI Headquarters by first-class mail with return receipt requested no later than thirty (30) days after receipt of the examination. 

Failure to abide by this deadline or process shall be deemed a waiver of the applicant’s right to continue his/her review. Should the examination be graded at the examination site, the applicant may challenge any question(s) verbally at said site and a determination by the CMFI committee member(s) present will be rendered at that time.

After a period of ninety days from the date of the examination, the tests shall be securely disposed of by the CMI Committee or their designee and the Proctor Sheet with the “pass” or “fail” grade shall be forwarded to IAMI Headquarters for inclusion in the CMFI Applicant’s file. In the event that a retest is necessary, all prior records of testing will be removed or deleted from the CMFI Applicant’s file and replaced with the most recent Proctor Sheet.
