Founded in 1986 when Major Dave MacGillis, of the Florida Marine Patrol, organized and published the Vessel Theft Investigators National Roster. This roster was intended to assist investigators combat marine crime, a high profit, low risk crime that was out of control, by providing contact persons from various agencies involved in marine theft investigations.

In 1989, the first three-day training seminar was held in New Orleans, LA.  The following year, 1990,
the National Association of Marine Investigators (NAMI) was formed. As NAMI grew, our membership increased both nationally and internationally.  In 1994, the organization went International. In 1996, IAMI-Europe was established. We are represented by marine professionals from all over the world.  Whether your case is local or a county away, IAMI members are ready to lend a hand.  Worldwide networking is one of the best benefits of IAMI.

MISSION STATEMENT

BoatHistoryReport.com began in 2005 with a mission to help used boat buyers make more informed decisions when purchasing pre-owned watercraft.  Through our partnerships with state departments, law enforcement, marine surveyors, the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), and other public and private sources, we have been able to assist consumers, law enforcement, insurance companies, marine surveyors, lenders, and marine professionals with uncovering the negative history of used watercraft.   We’re also committed to working with several marine organizations to assist with safer boating laws, consistent titling laws, and improved accident reporting records.  We’re happy to be members of IAMI and look forward to working with and assisting fellow members.

OUR
STORY

In 2005, Founder and CEO Grant Brooks was researching his next used boat and noticed that it was very difficult, and sometimes impossible, to find the complete history of used boats on the market. "There were some resources out there but nothing was conclusive and everything was scattered. The safety of my friends and family was crucial and knowing if a boat I was going to buy had something that could negatively affect their well being created fear and uncertainty with my purchase. The data was out there... it just needed to be gathered from many public and private sources and consolidated to one place so boat buyers like you and I could easily search it.” Since starting the company, Boat History Report continually hears success stories from people just like us who were able to make more informed decisions and safer choices when purchasing used boats.
